For years, Mark Spooner Photography was a solo-mission. My work is extremely personal, and for many years of my business I functioned (for better or worse) as a one-man team—convinced that the only way that I could ensure the client experience I wanted to curate was if I was there to complete every.single.task…and then, I met my team.

Meet Our Team
The MSP team is a collective of passionate visual storytellers, each with our own unique vision and style, yet driven by a mutual pursuit of honest, timeless and legacy-driven photography. Beyond their clear talents as technical photographers, Carl and Masao are also extremely kind, reliable, and relatable. It’s too often that I have to turn clients away because I’ve already been booked or because of budget restrictions, so I’m thrilled to have the MSP team available to extend the same quality service at an expanded capacity.

Carl Heyerdahl // Senior Associate Photographer

Carl and I [Mark] connected years ago when he relocated to the North Shore of Boston, and he arrived on the scene with a clear talent and purpose-driven approach to his craft. Our friendship developed quickly, and the similarities of our photographic approach made it supremely easy to begin working together. Carl has an incredible eye for detail, and has a knack for finding unique perspectives to photograph the intimate moments of a wedding day. He is a calm and quiet presence, allowing your day to happen organically while also offering direction when needed to help you and your guests feel as natural as possible in front of his lens.

Masao Okano // Senior Associate Photographer

Masao has been documenting weddings for over a decade throughout New England. His perspective is informed by a love for the rich, natural beauty of the Northeast and his character as a thoughtful observer. His goal is always to create emotive, authentic and artistic images that both speak to you and make you feel something. He has a particular strength finding unique compositions and and angles through which he tells the story of the weddings he photographs. Masao lives with his wife and three children in the woods and enjoys birding with his oldest daughter, playing strategic board games with family and friends, and channeling his inner Messi on the soccer field.

FAQ

How does the “Associate Photographer” thing work?

Great question! Simply put: Carl and Masao are both highly experienced wedding photographers who have been subcontracted by MSP to expand my ability to take on a larger number and wider variety of wedding clientele. When you book with Carl or Masao, you will still being hiring Mark Spooner Photography as a business and brand experience, but one of them will be the actual photographer on your wedding day.

We were initially drawn to your style and approach. Is working with your team a similar experience?

Absolutely. One of the first things I came to appreciate about Carl and Masao while working with them at weddings is that we all approach the day with the same care and attention to detail that I do. While each of us has our unique strengths and artistic visions, we are mutually fueled by visual storytelling, and love to document the in-between moments that will color your wedding day.

Do you and your team use the same equipment?

We do! So much so that I’ve even borrowed from my team occasion! Carl and Masao are well equipped with all the tools and back-ups that they’ll need to photograph your wedding with creative confidence. They are also fully insured as subcontractors of my business

What about editing? How will our files be processed?

My team and I have very similar editing and shooting styles, and we collaborate throughout the editing process of every wedding we photograph together. You can trust that your wedding photos will be processed in a manner consistent with the style you see on this website. Just like any of my other clients, I will take the time to make sure your wedding photos are carefully elevated with timeless edits, and you’ll receive a beautiful online gallery of full resolution digital files no later than 8 weeks after your wedding day—delivered by me!

Who do we communicate with leading up to our wedding?

I value the importance of building a relationship with your wedding photographer and want you to have the opportunity to develop that rapport with whomever you work with! For this reason, if you choose to work with one of my team photographers, they will be your primary point of contact throughout your inquiry and pre-event planning. I’ll be sure to touch base along the way to make sure things are running smoothly, but you should always feel that you have a direct line of contact with me and your specific photographer.

Can we see some full wedding galleries from the team?

Absolutely! Please click on any of the links below to view several recent client galleries from the team.

This all sounds great! How do we book?

It’s easy! Once you have landed on a specific wedding package, I’ll draft up a contract and invoice for your review and submission. To reserve your date, I simply need a signed contract and a $2,000.00 non-refundable reservation fee. If your wedding requires travel, I’ll also need the expenses paid at the time of booking to ensure travel costs are as quoted. Weddings taking place more than 2 hours drive from Beverly, MA (Carl’s home) or Pepperell, MA (Masao’s Home) will require travel accommodations.
